Midwest Adventure: Matthiessen State Park

On Saturday, Kyle and I finally bought a new camera! Excited, we decided to take it on a test run at Matthiessen State Park.  This park is approximately 2 miles south of Starved Rock (1 1/2 hours southwest of Chicago) and offers some amazing hiking trails through beautiful, snowy canyons!   This area is absolutely spectacular in the winter — I can’t wait to go back and see what it’s like in the summer!

After a few hours of hiking through the canyons and gawking at the ice falls, we drove over to Starved Rock State Park to get some photographs of the Eagles with our new camera.  There were definitely more eagles in the area this weekend compared to last weekend.  They were also more active!  Kyle was able to get some AMAZING photographs.  Here are a few of our favorites:

    1. Thank you! 🙂 You should visit these parks in the winter if you get the chance! Apparently, there are more bald eagles in Illinois during the months of January and February than any other location in North America. 🙂
